The Complaint and Redress Process

Law Office of Shannon James PLLC

The Complaint and Redress Process gives officers the ability to have unfair actions, such as unfair COERs or LORs reviewed through the chain of command. The Complaint and Redress Process is an important first step in seeking relief and one that should not be taken lightly. Officers must be aware of the required timelines and the steps involved in the process.

Officers can file an informal complaint to resolve the issue, but if that is unsuccessful, a formal complaint must be timely filed. There are several steps throughout the process as well as requirements at each level of review. Ultimately, the Formal Complaint should be reviewed by the Office of the Surgeon General. If that avenue fails, officers are permitted to submit an application for correction of their records to the PHS BFC.
